Nursing is an essential and integral part of medicine since it is the nurses who are responsible for caring for patients and assisting doctors in various manipulations. There are many unique areas of specialization for nurses; for example, I specialize in providing care for multiple types of wounds in patients. Theory and practice play an essential role in any field since each of these elements implies different kinds of knowledge that nurses need to apply in their work (Smith & Parker, 2020). Without theory, practice is impossible, and also, without practice, there will be no meaningful meaning in theory. When working with wounds, it is necessary to have theoretical knowledge about their types, their treatment, and theory, which helps to find out what kind of care is needed for patients with certain wounds.
The Practical Value of the Theory
The practical value of the theory of nursing is directly related to its significance for the practical activities that it directs. The role of theory in functional activity is enormous, even if it is not aimed at solving specific practical problems and tasks. The theory gives nurses a deeper understanding of their business and their purpose, which is of great importance for the development of both nursing and each nurse individually (Smith & Parker, 2020). The theory can help to anticipate various situations related to the health of patients and also gives an understanding of what a nurse can correct or change in her work to achieve the highest possible result.
There are many theories of nursing, each of which has the right to exist and carries value in practice. Probably, the presence of one general idea could contribute to the development of nursing as a scientific discipline and would help nurses from different countries to provide equally high-quality care and approach to patients. Nevertheless, each of the theories is aimed at other areas of nursing practice and helps to develop and focus on each of them. In addition, the modern approach helps to create new theories that allow all medicine to develop and improve.
The Introduction of the Theory into Practice
To introduce a particular theory of nursing into practice, it is necessary to go through several critical stages. First, it is essential to choose a theory for implementation and discuss it together with other nurses of the same specialization. The choice will be based on various criteria, such as the availability of certain drugs in a particular country or the frequency of certain types of wounds by patients. The second step is to communicate with the higher-ranking nurses and doctors and voice to them the theory that we plan to implement. After receiving their approval, it is necessary to teach all team members a new approach and offer to apply it in practice. Next, a study of the effectiveness of the theory being implemented is carried out, and the final process is evaluating the results obtained (Smith & Parker, 2020). This assessment is based on getting data on the effectiveness of the approach in practice.
I specialize in wounds and plan to introduce the theory of new ways of bandages and local treatment. To do this, I need to gather a group of nurses who also specialize in wounds, prepare a report and tell them about the theory that I want to put into practice. Having received their opinions and counter-suggestions on optimizing and improving the idea, I am conducting a report for senior nurses and higher-level employees. After the theory is accepted by them, I need to create a training course for all team members to teach them my theory and give detailed instructions on how to apply it in practice. After the view is implemented in work, I will gather the opinions of colleagues to evaluate my theory further, correct the shortcomings and correct the approach.
