Over the decades, the distinction between masculinity and feminism significantly attributed to the root cause of gender inequality. Ernest Hemingway exploits the implication of gender roles reverse and sexuality and notes a profound consequence to the coexistence among people (Remy 57). One of the key initiatives among personnel enshrines the advocacy for allocation of duties and responsibilities across the dynamic genders. In this case, there is a profound intersectionality of defiance and compliance among the three main characters, Marita, David, and Catherine. According to Catherine, the social order establishes norms that are barriers to adventurous living hence the change in hair style to resemble a boy like the husband (Hemingway 15). The plot encompasses the marriage experiences between Catherine and David. Although they enjoy the vacation in Paris, Catherine’s change of perception on gender roles fosters the root cause of the problem leading to the break-up. Feminism articulated by Catherine reverses gender roles and the social order hence significantly affecting accountability and responsibility aspects on upholding the virtues of a relationship including an interdependence quotient.
Reversing gender roles poses significant controversies and a challenge to the interaction and coordination among the entities. The main reason enshrines the normative structure concerning the division of labour. On the one hand, the conventional constructs indicate that a man’s role in the household enshrines providing food, shelter, and protection. On the other hand, the woman’s role involves doing the house chores and offering care and attention to the offspring. However, Catherine attempts to reverse the gender roles and considers an equality stance with David. Due to the intensified wrangles between David and Catherine, the couple resolves to separate mainly because of the lack of complement (Minton 2). Ideally, the contrast on gender roles delineates the interdependence between Catherine and David intensifying the tension and misunderstanding on various issues.
The influence of feminism
The concept of feminism faces dynamic controversy due to the aspect of establishing the key factor of gender equality. Uddin establishes that its definition mainly lies in the prevention of sexism and oppression (364). In this case, it is important to focus on the promotion of ideal factors that ensure the optimal dedication of gender balance and equality in the accessibility of opportunities. The author argues that a sexist views women’s liberation as the framework of enhancing lesbianism, uniformity in the house duties across all genders, and the awarding of the same pay and advancements based on the positions. Therefore, there is a prominent issue in comprehending the necessity of determining the balance across the gender dynamism thus the significant influence from the politicians. Feminism is a movement that provides a solution to the eradication of sexism across American society. It is crucial to establish the integral entities that foster the key concept hence alleviating the marginalization and promoting sustainable growth and development under the spectrum of uniform distribution of benefits.
One of the major issues that affected the American population involved the influence of feminism. It is an initiative that encompassed the provision of equal opportunities and standards akin to the males. An excellent example is uniform pay for equivalent tasks completed. However, the matter became subject to debate due to the nature of association to the Whites than other ethnic groups. The first associative ideology involved the effort by the White feminists to strip off men the dominance (Uddin 365). Another concept engulfed the justification of power among the ladies in America despite the negative influence of masculinity. Primarily, the strife between sexists’ focus on abolishing the benefits from feminism and the essence of women’s liberation rendered the emergence of an array of misconceptions about interactions and social justice.
Sexism is a reflection of the rivalry between members of a community from different sects. The essence of supremacy is an issue that sparks violence causing death and destruction across a region. It is important that people appreciate diversity and enhance the interrelationships due to the attribution of peace and harmony. Further, it is crucial that the law enforcement authorities embrace a neutral focus. These practices enhance social justice and the prevention of war among conflicting groups. During the historic event, the police participated in the brutality through the distribution of firearms to the Whites hence causing a significant rampage. The segregation arises based on the fear among individuals regarding the existence of the creatures within the community (Uddin 366). The tension becomes imminent, causing disorder and insecurity within the society. Communication and interdependence play a vital role in the promotion of peace and harmony across a dynamic population.
Feminism in America
Feminism is an initiative that focuses on the empowerment of women to alleviate the discriminatory essence based on gender identity. In the context by Uddin, the author establishes that in her pre-teenage years, she lived as a common villager with the zeal to entertain individuals from all ethnicities (367). However, after her thirteenth year, she noticed the changing attitude of the crowd towards her engagements mainly as a woman of color. In this case, living experiences became engulfed by segmentation and marginalization such as attainment of privileges based on the color of the skin. It is an experience that showed contrast and justifying the villagers’ reaction to the passers-by from the Northern and the tourists. The past experiences on slavery continuously haunt and influence the Americans’ behavior and interaction among people from different races.
One of the distinctive factors that contributed to the marginalization of females encompassed slave trade. The dynamic forms of slavery fostered by the evolution of the community towards a global village threaten growth and development. Social justice is an issue encapsulated under the spectrum of biased interpretations and perspectives by individuals. It is essential to implement policies and governance systems that promote cohesion and equality in the distribution of resources. The lack of a platform that fosters unity among the collective members threatens the ideal solution to enhance civilization. On the one hand, the government enforces rules and regulations. On the other hand, the dynamic ethnic groups focus on the development of a cultural practice that boosts their belief system for individual identity. Egalitarianism is a system that ensures the equal distribution of resources and privileges among people from dynamic racial sects. In a different spectrum, human behavior is shaped by cultural construct and practice (Uddin 368). Therefore, African Americans’ behavioral response is different from the Whites’ behavioral response. The primary goal of impartiality entails consistent monitoring and evaluation of a person’s practices in promoting the equal distribution of resources.
Culture is a multi-faceted social element that influences the construct of human interactions. It is considered the development of practices that encourage the morph of a person’s behavior including religious beliefs, language, feeding habits as well as norms. The author further argues that an investigation of the different elements in the customs impact the value of relationship -building (Uddin 369). There is an adept similarity to Hemingway’s perception concerning feminism and gender roles. During the honeymoon, Catherine and David shared key values from their relationship. However, Catherine introduces the aspect of breaking the social norms that prominently affect the marriage (Hemingway 15). The main reason enshrines the subjective interpretation of interactions and allocation of responsibilities and accountabilities on gender roles (Remy 58). Ideally, Hemingway demonstrates through the alteration of gender roles as a means of rendering the insignificance of marriage and interactive quotients based on the elaborate customs.
Intersectionality in the cultural facet is the approach of demonstrating the different types of philosophies that intersect at the core to form the main phenomenon of traditions. In the aim of addressing interconnectedness as the main issue surrounding customs, the author categorizes the philosophy into dynamic challenges (Uddin 370). The first challenge is the appropriation of the constructs mainly encompassing the convenience of the outsiders engaging in the cultural practices of a particular community without the consideration of the significance. Another challenge is the commodification that enshrines upon the use of the beauty of a particular practice for business purposes hence manipulating the system as a commodity to make enterprise profits. The third challenge is the varying natures of disrespect such as the use of particular vocabularies to refer to a Black American. The use of the terminology, people of color is a phenomenon that fostered the social identity of the ethnic group while marginalizing them from the Whites based on the provision of privileges and benefits.
Feminism in Africa
One of the ordeals in feminism involves the contribution of traditional practices in the alienation of the genders based on their duties and responsibilities. According to the conventional customs, it is the role of the woman to do the house chores while the man provided food for the family. However, civilization fostered the emergence of a concept that is contradictory and renders confusion across the vast African community. The Laurette Nobel peace prize winner Wangari Mathai once articulated that the higher you go, the fewer there are women in the leadership position. Kappler and Nicolas recounts her encounter with traditionists based on the meaning of the term “feminism” and realized dynamic misconceptions regarding the ideology (160). A significant percentage of Africans believe that the word is representative of an individual who hates men and values women in leadership positions. Other Africans argued that the phrase was symbolic of an unhappy woman within the society. These misunderstandings and misconceptions justified the collision between modernization and traditional practices due to the variant constructs.
In pre-colonial Africa, the female gender was relegated to domestic roles while men sought food and provided protection. African women and girls assumed a supposed vital duty in domestic responsibilities. The responsibilities taken up by the counterparts were meant to safeguard female purity, fidelity in marriage, and accountability in the homestead. Their part as participants in the workforce needed in the development of the numerous African communities was majorly disregarded. Therefore, the education of women was remotely considered as boys and men partook in education. Catherine becomes jealous of the relationship established between Davi and Marita causing wrangles. The main reason encapsulates Marita’s considerate engagement in the respective gender roles attracting David’s attention and desires. The plot of the story Garden of Eden reflects the conventional belief system in the African customs (Bauman 3). Females’ segregation has led to inequity witnessed to date where most of the workforce mainly comprises men and the persistent perception of feminism as an influential value against growth and development.
Primarily, feminism is a concept that mainly articulates the coordination of dynamic elements than the essence of masculinity. Virility is an indication of toughness hence the justification of securing leadership positions over the females considered as the inferior group. Although feminism is an inferior position within society, it is an indication of social justice and equality (Kappler and Nicolas 171). Promoting uniform rights across genders is an initiative that potentially renders the enhancement of civilization hence eradicating the marginalization of individuals with talent and expertise in particular fields of specialty. The optimal participation of all personnel despite the social and gender identity is the key to prominent national growth and development.
To sum up, the concept by Ernest Hemingway prominently impacts the essence of gender roles and interpretation of equality. Success in marriage relies on the interdependence between male and female counterparts. Reversing gender roles risks conflicts and imbalance on accountability quotient akin to the emergent issues between Catherine and David. Although David loved Catherine, the lack of obligation and compliance by Catherine concerning her duties contributes to the separation. Hemingway further exploits the influence of sexuality and demonstrates a proficient outcome. Marita, David, and Catherine participate in an androgynous marriage that enhances the lively aspect regardless of the end leading to jealous and eventual separation between David and Catherine. The vital construct of the literature by Hemingway is an affirmation that feminism is a consequential subjective phenomenon that violates the social norm on the virtues of a relationship causing increased wrangles and misunderstanding.
