Workplace Stress: Effects of Job Stress on Employee’s Performance

Workplace stress has a profound impact on employee well-being both inside and outside the work environment. This persuasive essay aims to convince the management of businesses to take steps to mitigate workplace stress, given its negative implications on employee health and performance. The essay will focus on psychological concepts in the field of business. The intended audience is the decision-makers in the business world. It is therefore argued that organizational efforts should be made to mitigate workplace stress, which has a long-term adverse effect on employee well-being.

The first point to be addressed is the inevitability of workplace stress in performance- and excellence-oriented organizations. This is supported by the scholarly article by Cross Ogohi Danie titled “Effects of Job Stress on Employees Performance,” which investigates the effects of stress on employee performance (Daniel, 2019, p. 377). The second point focuses on the contribution of elevated stress to employee burnout. This is supported by the research article by Soelton et al. titled “Dealing with Job Insecurity, Work Stress, and Family Conflict of Employees” (2020). This article claims that workplace stress contributes to burnout and has a generally destructive effect on individuals’ psychological well-being. The third point deals with the negative implications of workplace stress on employee mental health from a long-term perspective. This is supported by the findings of the aforementioned articles, which provide evidence of the negative effects of workplace stress on employee well-being.

An opposing viewpoint stands that stress can be a positive and motivating factor. However, it is important to recognize that this perspective only holds true in certain circumstances and under certain levels of stress. Excessive stress can lead to burnout and have long-term negative effects on an employee’s well-being (Daniel, 2019). This can in turn harm their performance and productivity. It is crucial for organizations to mitigate stress and provide their employees with proper support, rather than viewing stress as a necessary evil.

It can be concluded that it is crucial for the management of businesses to take steps to mitigate workplace stress. The negative implications of stress on employee well-being and performance have been supported by credible evidence and opposing viewpoints have been addressed and discredited. It is clear that organizational efforts are needed to mitigate the adverse effects of workplace stress on employees. The essay serves as a reminder of the importance of taking action to support the well-being of employees and improve organizational performance.
